Flashback to the 8th of December, I went to the Young and Able fashion show, The Rebirth. Since their first edition, which was last year, was such a huge success they made a second one.
The first edition, Young & Able Charity Fashion Show, was a charitable event organized by a group of students at the KU-Leuven University in Brussels called Young and Able. Young and Able is about promoting young and creative designers and build bridges between their future career in the fashion industry. The event was not about the profits, as a matter of fact, the profits made were not meant for the organisation. All profit was donated to the charity organization Make-A-Wish® Belgium, that aims to fulfill the dreams of seriously ill children aged from 3 to 18 years.
At the second edition, it was not only about the designers but also about fashion entrepreneurship and networking. The purpose is to introduce Belgium’s young and upcoming fashion leaders who have a promising future ahead of them. The creative minds behind the show, consist of a select group of fashion students from all over Belgium.
- 16h00: Backstage
I was able to see the models rehearse and get ready at the makeup section. The fittings were already over by then so we could not see any outfit yet, which made me even more excited. But that was a good thing, they kept the surprise for the actual fashion show.
- 17h00: Interviews
I had the opportunity to interview 4 amazing and talented female fashion designers. There will be an article about it on the official website of Black Dash Magazine soon. Stay tuned!
- 18h30: Fashion panel
After that there was a fashion talk moment with Tonya Mas as the host. I had the opportunity to watch her speak with some influencers about the fashion industry.
Doriane Van Overeem

- 20h: Fashion show
What stood out at this particular fashion show is that it was more than fashion. There were many other talents to see. For instance, at the very beginning there was a young girl suddenly walking through the catwalk while quoting her poem. And the thing is, the whole room was crowded and loud but as soon as she began talking, everyone went quiet. The power of poetry. After a good 30 minutes into the show, there was a little break where there were 2 random people doing their choreography at the front of the room. It was something else but I high key loved the concept.
The exhibition of creative collections of young and talented designers from all over Belgium.
