After Kim Jones left from Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh, the founder of Off-White and creative director for Kanye West, will be the next artistic director of men’s wear at Louis Vuitton. I am extremely excited about what he has in store for us.

If you haven’t been living under a rock the past 30 years you probably know Virgil Abloh.  A Ghanaian-American fashion designer. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 30, 1980 and also raised there. He received undergraduate in civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and his Master of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Smart and talented? It’s almost unfair.

Most people know him as the art director for the 2011 Jay-Z & Kanye West album Watch the Throne. Yes, Abloh has been in the business since way back! For this masterpiece he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package that same year. Abloh also serves as the chief executive officer of the Milan-based label Off-White, a fashion house he founded in 2013.

This year 37-year-old Virgil Abloh becomes Louis Vuitton’s first African-American artistic director. I’m living for the black Excellence!

“Having followed with great interest Virgil’s ascent since he worked with me at Fendi in 2006, I am thrilled to see how his innate creativity and disruptive approach have made him so relevant, not just in the world of fashion but in popular culture today. His sensibility towards luxury and savoir-faire will be instrumental in taking Louis Vuitton menswear into the future.” said Louis Vuitton chairman and CEO, Michael Burke, in a statement shared on Instagram.

Abloh went from a Fendi intern, where he met Michael Burke to working with Kanye West in 2006 to a more consumer-lead shift for Louis Vuitton. What an upgrade! Since the announcement that Kim Jones – a friend of Abloh – would step down from the role in January, Abloh decided to take a chance in the chique and luxurious LV world.

Louis Vuitton is more than delighted to welcome Virgil Abloh as its new Mens Artistic Director. His first show will take place in June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris. Even though I will be in Paris at that time but I won’t be able to see it. I dearly wish I could witness it, but I will just have to watch it online I guess. Poor me..

Good luck to Virgil for his next fashion show!
